AITC summer workshops occur over a three-day period at various locations in North Carolina, with lodging and meals provided for workshop participants. Participants attend sessions at which they learn innovative strategies for teaching core curricula objectives while providing students with information about agriculture in North Carolina; farm and agribusiness tours; and, depending on the workshop, smaller group discussions specific to grade levels.
Summer workshops participants also receive grade level lesson plans, supplementary materials, and other pertinent information such as special contacts and teacher resources. Teachers completing 3-day workshops receive two (2) renewel credits.
AITC also offers an extensive list of customized countywide and school inservice workshops. Additionally, if the county or school's needs are not represented by the existing workshop topic list, the AITC staff will develop a workshop to meet specific needs. Faculty members and administrators can request a workshop by calling the AITC office (919-783-4319.) The Ag in the Classroom staff makes a conscious effort to adapt all lesson plans, materials and workshops as change arises within the competency requirements.
